PROJECT 1
Self Expression through Object
'Representing Me'
In this project, we were required to design and construct an abstract form of either mask or sculpture without exceeding the dimension 30cmx30cmx30m to represent our personality. The purpose of this project is to unravel our creativity and our inner self through various mode of communication or art form. With the personality of perfectionist, hot-tempered, impatient and also better in assisting, I have designed an abstract form of sculpture to represent myself.
Throughout this project, I have learnt to explore more in different possibilites of generating ideas throughout the process of designing. Besides, I am also now able to express through an art work to communicate ideas.
PROJECT 2
Self Expression through Architectural Space
'Life Capsule'
In this project, we were required to form a group of 4 to 6 to produce a 1:1 model. The main purpose of this project is to expand on understanding oneself and to heighten the awareness about the human body, how to use the space and how this is to be expressed spatially. Firstly, we shall explore the notions of scale and proportion. Then, it will be done through designing the ‘Life Capsule’ for a 24-hour use. We were to choose a client and design a space based on the client's need, wants, desires and also the scale and proportion of the client's body.
Throughout this project, I have learnt about the basic principle of design in the organization and articulation of the space. Besides, I am now able to distinguish the role of scale and proportion in the relationship between the human body and a designed space or enclosure. In addition, due to the reason of it is a group work, I have learnt that teamwork is very important espeially working on a huge model like this. It cannot be done alone within a short period.
PROJECT 3
Dreamscape for the self 'Hide Out'
In this project, we were required to design a dream space for our client by engaging it to the walls of a building lot in scale 1:50. Before proceeding to the design for our client, in a group of 4 to 6, we were required to produce a site building by selecting it from a movie scene. We have selected a scene from the movie Pacific Rim as our site building. Next, we will proceed to the dream space for our client. This was carried out individually. Based on understanding how site influence the development and vice versa, we have to explore adn form our own narrative and spatial design. Within the hide out, we were required to create 3 spaces excluding the bathroom for our client. My client was Oscar Pistorius.
Throughout this project, I have learnt about before building a space for a client, I have to understand their physically and emotionally needs, wants and desires. Besides, I have also learnt to identify, articulate and apply basic design principles in spatial organization and relationship. And also, before building a model, exploration on materials and making different study models is important in order to get the righ materials that works well in the specific form and design.
