Building Information Modeling
PROJECT 1: BIM APPLICATIONS IN AEC INFOGRAPHICS
This involves the study of the current applications of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC). This project intends to expose students to the various current applications in the AEC industries, through an in-depth review of the literature. The findings are presented in the form of an infographic.
We were to identify ONE specific area from the following and conduct a literature review based on case studies of application/research in BIM. The chosen topic is Energy Analysis.
OBJECTIVE OF ASSIGNMENT
-
Understand the applications and research of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC).
LEARNING OUTCOMES
-
To apply understanding of Building Information Modeling and its relevance to the changing profession and demonstrate integration of information learned in particular building technologies and building sciences.
Attached below is the infographic board:

Throughout this project, I have learnt and gained knowledge about the technology used not only in architecture field but also engineering and construction field. About the topic I have been researching, it is interesting that the technology nowadays are able to do such performance which make our life easier as it is more time saving.
PROJECT 2A: BUILDING MODELING
This project involves the production of Revit model of the selected architecture design using Architectural Components such as Wall, Roof, Stairs, Floor, Curtain Wall, Doors and Windows.
Based on the selected architectural design, we were to generate a Revit model. The model must be compliant with LOD200 requirements. Besides, the Revit model must include at least 2 Revit Family components. We were also required to create a blog or Facebook album for public access. The Work in Progress (WIP) print screens and test renderings must be uploaded to the above online platform REGULARLY to show progressive evidence of the working process. It will serve as a communication and mutual learning platform.
OBJECTIVES OF PROJECT
-
Understand and apply Revit Architecture’s modeling tools to generate a building model.
LEARNING OUTCOMES OF PROJECT:
-
To learn access and build up databases to produce a simple BIM model and architectural details complete with integrated information of materials; and their manipulation to have quick options in a given situation.
-
To use BIM as a design tool to create 3 dimensional models to analyze the aesthetics and technical requirement.

PROJECT 2A: BUILDING MODELING
This project involves the production of building documentation drawings from the Revit model created in Project 2a,
using Revit’s Documentation Components such as Sheets, Titleblock, Sections, Room Tags, Schedule and Phasing.
Using the Revit model from Project 2, you are required to prepare building documentation drawings in A1 size containing the following components:
-
Plans
-
Elevations
-
2 Sections
-
2 Callouts on sections
-
1 Exploded isometric
-
Phasing (existing, demolished, new)
-
1 Room Schedule showing area tabulation
-
Perspective line renderings *(2 exteriors + 2 interiors)
-
*colour renderings NOT required

Throughout this project, I have learnt how to build a model in Revit and also make use of the functions in Revit. Besides I have also learnt how to create a Revit family component which was then applied in the Revit model built. Also, Revit is a very convenient tool to build a 3D digital model where making a documentation of the drawings is an easy task that it produces accurate drawings with line weights and also proper annotation.
